History of the Mullen Buildings

The Mullen Buildings were constructed in the 1920's during a South of Market Area industrial building boom. The complex included four, two story, concrete frame buildings and several wooden sheds which are the progenitors for the modernist industrial esthetic.

The Mullen Company designed and constructed architectural millwork for banks and other businesses. Subsequent occupants included a greeting card company and offices for general contractors.

73 Sumner is the first phase of the Mullen Buildings Development. A second and third phases consist of 37 historic lofts at 60 Rausch Street and 6 new lofts at 52 Rausch Street. Subsequent phases are in preliminary planning.
